One of the first signs your body is stressed or not getting a proper diet is the appearance of dark circles. Besides signalling that something is wrong with your routine, dark circles look unpleasant. You can master your skincare routine like a YouTube beauty guru, but dark circles will still defeat you. They make you look sick, aged, and like you haven’t slept in days.
Common Causes of Dark Circles
The trick to getting rid of dark circles lies in understanding the causes of it. Once you figure out what’s causing the bags under your eyes, you can tinker with your schedule to minimize the appearance of dark circles.
- Not meeting the daily intake of 10-12 glasses of water
- Working watching makes us glued to our computer screen for hours
- Low hemoglobin levels in the body
- Sleeplessness and stress leading to lack of sleep
- Long periods of illness or genetic causes

The following home remedies can be easily found in your kitchen and do not require you to splurge money on extravagant eye products. Along with these home remedies, make sure you are eating healthy food for maintaining glowing skin. Now let’s move on to reading about how you can get rid of dark circles naturally.
1. Cold Milk
Containing lactic acid in ample quantities, milk helps minimize fine lines and wrinkles around the eye area. It is also a quick solution to lessen puffy bags around the eyes and reduce dullness.
How to use:
- Soak cotton balls in a bowl of cold milk.
- Place them in your under-eye area for 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse the under-eye area with water and pat dry.
- Repeat once every day for up to two weeks.
- You can substitute with plant-based milk like almond milk.
2. Herbal Tea Bags
Green tea helps refresh the eye area by reducing the appearance of blood capillaries, thus making your under-eyes look lighter!
How to use:
- After using your green tea bags, refrigerate them.
- Keep the chilled tea bags over your eyes for 15-20 minutes.
- Repeat once daily till you notice dark circles vanishing.
- Try chamomile tea for a quick lightening of the dark eye area.
3. Grated Potatoes
You will be pleased to know that potato juice is known to contain natural bleaching properties that can lighten your dark circles.
How to use:
- Just grate raw potatoes and squeeze the juice out of it.
- Soak cotton balls into the juice and let them sit over your eye area for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse the eye area with cold water and pat dry.
- Repeat once or twice every day for a couple of weeks.
4. Aloe Vera
This is perhaps the most well-known home remedy in every list, and it helps with dark circles too. Aloe Vera hydrates the under-eye skin, thereby reducing pigmentation and healing from within.
How to use:
- Take fresh Aloe Vera gel and massage under eye area.
- Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then wipe with a moist cloth.
- Repeat twice daily – in the morning and before bed.
- Try getting an Aloe Vera plant and use fresh gel.
5. Tomato Juice
Tomatoes are loaded with phytochemicals that reduce skin damage and redness. They can also help lighten skin mildly and help in reducing dullness around the eyes.
How to use:
- Mix 1 teaspoon each of tomato and lemon juice.
- Apply under the eye and leave for 10 minutes.
- Rinse with cold water and pat dry.
- Repeat twice daily for a few weeks.
Armed with these natural remedies, as well as lifestyle changes, you will be able to combat your panda eyes. If you don’t see improvement immediately, don’t get discouraged.
