I find this as one of the best chocolate quotes ever. Some call chocolate their true love. Some use chocolate to measure true strength. Yes, if you can break a bar of chocolate into 4 pieces and just eat one, then my friend you have true strength.
Many get happy, high, and find comfort when they have chocolate. It does have health benefits as well. During this pandemic, most of us home-turned chefs tried various chocolate recipes to make a chocolate brownie, cake, and some even tried finding “how chocolate is made”.
When it comes to chocolates, a few of you know many things. But I bet there are 3 surprising chocolate facts that you have no clue about. I recently found out about them and am sure they will blow your mind.

1. Overdosing on chocolate is possible… Please don’t test it out!
Too much of anything is never good for the human body – Chocolate included. There’s a term called “chocolate poisoning” where a toxin “theobromine” can cause death in humans and dogs. This happens when you eat too many chocolates. While there is no set number, it’s safe to say that eating too many chocolates might release this toxin into your body and kill you.
Just FYI, this toxin can also be found in small quantities in tea and other cola beverages. So like chocolate, if you have too many of these beverages, it can get lethal.

2. Chocolate is somewhat of a vegetable… or a Fruit!
Chocolate comes from the cacao bean that grows on the cacao tree also known as Theobroma cacao. This is part of the Malvaceae family (this includes okra and cotton as well). While it’s debatable for many that chocolate is a fruit or a vegetable, it doesn’t matter as everyone does love chocolate.

3. Chocolate as a currency… Really?
In earlier days, dating back to the 15th century, Chocolate was used as a form of currency. Yes, there is proof that shows Cacao traded as a currency in several Latin American societies. People would exchange cacao for perishable items like eggs, vegetables, and many more things. Isn’t that so cool?
There are many more surprises related to chocolate that we usually have no clue about. One of them being that it can take almost 1 week to make a single serving chocolate bar. Imagine the effort it takes to create one chocolate bar.
