Here’s how to kickstart your Day 1 journey from Bengaluru!
1.Kicchana Halli Mane Vegetarian Restaurant
Embark on your adventure from Bengaluru, setting out bright and early around 4-5 am. After a scenic drive spanning approximately 80-90 kilometers. Which is equivalent to 1.5-2 hours, take a pit stop at Kicchana Halli Mane vegetarian restaurant. Owned by the esteemed Kannada Superstar, Kiccha Sudeep, this bustling eatery is renowned for its hygienic and pristine ambience. So, indulge your taste buds with a delightful array of authentic South Indian dishes, served with flair and excellence.
2. Submerged Shettihalli Rosary Church
After some pet puja, embark on the next leg of your journey. Which is to cover a distance of approximately 115-200 kilometers over a span of 2 hours. Leading to the enchanting Shettihalli Rosary Church. Nestled amidst the tranquil waters of the Hemavathi River; this 19th-century architectural masterpiece captivates with its partially submerged structure, especially during the monsoon season. Upon arrival, you’ll find ample parking near the shores, ensuring a hassle-free experience. While the area has less crowd, it’s advisable to carry essential supplies such as water, as amenities may be limited. Embrace the refreshing breeze as you immerse yourself in the serene ambiance, reminiscent of the historic town of Hampi. Which has picturesque setting, where you’ll easily lose track of time. One can easily spend a leisurely hour or two exploring this captivating site.

3. Hoysaleshwara Temple in Halebeedu – UNESCO:
This 2-day chikmagalur travel itinerary is incomplete without your journey to the iconic Hoysaleshwara Temple in Halebeedu. It is located approximately 45-50 kilometers away from the Shettihalli Rosary Church. This renowned temple is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. So, expect to encounter fellow visitors, including school or college groups. Upon arrival, prepare to be awestruck by the grandeur of this ancient Hoysala Empire UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you step inside, you’ll be need to remove your footwear before entering the sprawling temple complex. Which boasts a rich history and exquisite craftsmanship.
Marvel at the intricate sculptures and ornate carvings that adorn every corner of the temple, reflecting the unparalleled artistic prowess of its creators. For your convenience, well-maintained washroom facilities are available on-site, with separate facilities for genders. Additionally, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the adjacent museum and garden, which offer further insights into the region’s cultural heritage. Whether you choose to delve deep into its historical significance or opt for a quick scan through. The Hoysaleshwara Temple promises an enriching experience that can span up to three hours of exploration.
4. Chikmagalur
After exploring the magnificent Hoysaleshwara Temple in Halebeedu. Your next destination is Chikmagalur, which is mere 45 kilometers away. That is roughly a 50-minute drive. Brace yourself for a thrilling journey through the scenic ghat roads, offering breathtaking hill views along the way. Its better to travel on an empty stomach or be ready for the exhilarating roller coaster ride ahead.
Upon arrival in Chikmagalur, you’ll find a plethora of accommodation options ranging from resorts to homestays. Whether you choose to indulge in a homely farm stay or opt for a cozy night’s stay at a resort; Chikmagalur has something for everyone. During my visit, I had the pleasure of staying at a friend’s family house. Which turned into a memorable party night filled with laughter and camaraderie.

Continuing the adventure, let’s delve into how the second day unfolded.
5. Holy Family Church in Vijayapura
Begin your second day by visiting the Holy Family Church in Vijayapura. It is located just 2 kilometers from the city center of Chikmagalur. However, you’ll be experiencing stunning hill views and colorful flower gardens; offering a tranquil atmosphere to immerse yourself in.
6. Kyatanamakki Sunset Point
Following your exploration of the church, make your way to Kyatanamakki sunset point. As you arrive, you’ll notice that private vehicles can only go till a certain point. To reach the hilltop, you have two options. Embark on a roughly one-hour trek along an uneven and rugged path. Or opt for a thrilling off-road journey aboard a 4×4 jeep. However, do know that the journey is bumpy and uncomfortable. As the terrain is challenging, and the jeeps often encounter obstacles.
Many locals prefer to traverse the area on foot, especially given the unpredictable nature of the jeep rides. I personally had a challenging experience during the jeep ride. And ended up with a bump on my head due to the unpredictable nature of the journey. Even, several members of our group had to walk back after their jeep got stuck, despite having paid for a return fare. Therefore, it’s essential to choose your mode of transportation wisely.
Upon reaching the hilltop, you’ll experience breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
The lush greenery, gentle breeze, and stunning scenery make it an ideal spot to connect with nature and unwind. As dusk approaches, the hilltop transforms into one of the best vantage points to witness a mesmerizing sunset. Be sure to arrive early to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the area before darkness falls.

Instead of the 2-day Chikmagalur travel itinerary, if you wish to extend your stay and fully immerse yourself in the tranquility of the hilltop. You’ll find lots of options for overnight accommodation available. Residents and jeep operators can assist you in arranging accommodations. It’s typically priced between 2000-2500 INR per person, inclusive of meals. However, please note that our group did not opt for overnight stays; so we cannot provide detailed information on this aspect. Be sure to inquire and negotiate to ensure the best possible experience.
